Ancestral Healing Skateboard Deck

"There is an unbroken line of police violence in the United States that takes us all the way back to the days of slavery, the aftermath of slavery, and the development of the KKK." - Angela Davis

This skateboard deck is the canvas for an image of J. Rosario's 2017 performance art piece, "Ancestral Healing." The piece was part of the original MS. RPRSNTD gallery exhibition in Los Angeles, California, and photographed by Adrienne Williams. Rosario unpacks the traumatic lineage of chattel slavery for Black Americans with an elaborate display of self-tied shibari ropes.
